Kanjiža/Novi Sad, June 12 – President of the AP Vojvodina Assembly, dr Juhász Bálint, attended today the ceremonial opening of an athletics track in Kanjiža, built as part of the AFALL – Athletics for All project, which is being implemented with the support of the Interreg VI-A IPA Hungary–Serbia Programme.
The track, valued at €340,000, was constructed with the aim of enhancing the professional development of athletes, coaches and teachers, as well as improving sports infrastructure in the border region of Serbia and Hungary. The project partners include the Municipality of Kanjiža as the Lead Beneficiary, the Municipality of Algyő in Hungary and the Athletics Association of Vojvodina.
Addressing the guests, President of the AP Vojvodina Assembly emphasised that Vojvodina possessed significant sporting potential, as demonstrated by the achievements of elite athletes such as Adriana Vilagoš (Világos Adriana), as well as numerous young athletes whose results showed that there was no shortage of talent.
“Talent alone is not enough. Parents, coaches, role models and places where young people can develop their abilities are also essential. That is why projects like this are important—they create the conditions for children and young people to train, progress and dream big sporting dreams,” President Juhász stated.
He stressed that project of this kind was an example of successful cross-border cooperation that brought tangible and lasting benefits to the local community, adding that the Province would continue to invest in sports infrastructure and youth programmes.
The total budget of the AFALL project component implemented in Kanjiža amounts to €503,414. The Municipality of Kanjiža received IPA funding in the amount of €428,347, while the Provincial Secretariat for Finance provided 8.5 million dinars for the purpose of the project co-financing.
In addition to President Juhász, the attendees were also addressed by Fejsztámer Róbert, President of the Municipality of Kanjiža; Goran Obradović, President of the Athletics Association of Vojvodina and Slobodan Branković, President of the Athletics Federation of Serbia.
