30. 05. 2026.Juhász: The Future of the Region Lies in Connectivity, Trust and Development

Rabe/Novi Sad, 30 May  –President of the AP Vojvodina Assembly, dr Juhász Bálint, attended today the traditional event marking the opening of the border crossings at Rabe, Kübekháza and Beba Veche, located at the tri-border area of the Republic of Serbia, Hungary and Romania, within the framework of the Danube–Criș–Mureș–Tisa  (DKMT) Regional Cooperation.

This event is held every year on the last weekend of May at the “Triplex Confinium” boundary marker, which symbolises connectivity, cooperation and the historical ties among the three countries.

President Juhász emphasised that the border tripoint opening event best demonstrated something that the people of this region had known for a long time—that they were much closer to one another than borders might sometimes appear on a map.

“This is a place of encounter. A place that shows how successful cooperation can be when there is mutual respect and goodwill. Here, people want to cross borders more easily, jointly develop their municipalities and cities and provide young people with prospects and opportunities within this region,” President Juhász stated.

He added that it was particularly important that the DKMT cooperation, which brought together more than five million people, had lasted for over thirty years, as it was not merely an administrative framework but one that produced tangible results through concrete projects such as the development of cross-border infrastructure, the modernisation of border crossings, improved connectivity between Subotica and Szeged, and similar initiatives.

“Vojvodina will therefore continue to support every initiative that connects people and strengthens regional cooperation. Because today, we are not merely opening a border for one day. We are reaffirming an important idea—that the future of this region lies in connectivity, trust and normal, positive relations among people. In the times we live in, that may be more important than ever,” President Juhász stressed.

The ceremony also featured addresses by dr Kornél Mák, Vice President of the Bács-Kiskun County Assembly; Alexandru Adrian Iovescu, Vice President of the Timiș County Council and Andrei Ando, Executive Director of Communication, Strategies and Public Administration Department of Arad County. A symbolic race involving children from Serbia, Hungary and Romania was also held, followed by an award ceremony for the participants.
