Novi Sad, 6th May – Ambassador of the Republic of India, H.E. Abhishek Shukla, and a delegation responsible for the conduct of elections from the Indian state of Uttarakhand paid today a call on the Assembly of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina and the Provincial Election Commission.
Prior to the working meeting between representatives of the election commissions of AP Vojvodina and the Indian state, President of the AP Vojvodina Assembly, Dr Bálint Juhász, received the Ambassador of India and discussed the potential for deepening cooperation and strengthening Indian investments in Vojvodina.
“Considering that agricultural land accounts for 84 percent of Vojvodina’s territory, that 30 percent of exports originate from the agricultural sector, and that the IT industry ranks second, with Novi Sad as the largest IT hub in the Republic of Serbia, Vojvodina and Indian states have significant potential to elevate their existing cooperation to a higher level,” President Juhász pointed out. He also invited Indian businessmen to participate in the Regional Business Forum, traditionally organised in the autumn by the AP Vojvodina in cooperation with the Assembly of European Regions, attended by numerous companies from various states, from five continents.
H.E. Ambassador Shukla expressed satisfaction with the readiness for cooperation, noting that India, as a large country and the world’s fifth-largest economy, is seeking resources that Vojvodina and Serbia possess across various sectors. He announced that a delegation from India would visit the International Agricultural Fair in Novi Sad the following year, with the aim of advancing cooperation in the field of agriculture.
In addition to President Juhász, the delegation also met with Vice-Presidents of the AP Vojvodina Assembly, Aleksandra Maletić and Boris Novaković.
At the working meeting between the Provincial Election Commission and the delegation from Uttarakhand, Provincial Election Commission President, Mr. Rajko Marinković, and Secretary of the Commission and of the AP Vojvodina Assembly, Dr Sandra Stojković, briefed the guests on the electoral system in AP Vojvodina, as well as on the procedures for conducting and overseeing elections.
The guests from India presented their electronic voting system and the method of appointing members of the election commission. They also invited representatives of the Provincial Election Commission to visit the state of Uttarakhand in order to gain a closer understanding of the electoral process in that Indian region.
