Novi Sad, 28th April – President of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina Assembly, Dr Bálint Juhász, attended today a ceremonial academy marking the Day of the Library of Matica Srpska, held in the Grand Hall of this oldest Serbian cultural and scientific institution.
The ceremony was also attended by Metropolitan, Dr Irinej of Bačka; President of Matica Srpska, Prof. Dragan Stanić, PhD; President of the Provincial Government, Ms Maja Gojković; Minister of Culture of the Republic of Serbia, Mr Nikola Selaković; Mayor of Novi Sad, Mr Žarko Mićin; Director of Matica Srpska Library, Mr Selimir Radulović; as well as numerous distinguished guests from public and cultural life.
The Library of Matica Srpska is the oldest public library in Serbia and one of the most significant in the region, with a rich collection that bears witness to the cultural and scientific development of the Serbian people.
The ceremonial academy was dedicated to the importance and role of Matica Srpska Library in preserving written heritage, language, and cultural identity. On this occasion, awards and certificates of appreciation were presented to meritorious individuals and institutions.
