Novi Sad/Kanjiža, 12 December - President of the Assembly of AP Vojvodina Bálint Juhász visited the Vojvodina Wrestling Academy in Kanjiža today where he attended the “Wrestling Christmas” ceremony organised to celebrate the successful conclusion of the year 2025.
President Juhász noted that Vojvodina has a prolific and well-recognised wrestling tradition, as the region has for decades produced champions who have represented our country at the highest level in European and global competitions.
“This tradition also carries a responsibility to invest in young athletes. Vojvodina Wrestling Academy creates conditions in which children can grow, develop and believe in their potential. Today, we have seen how talented and motivated that are, and we are convinced that among them are new names who will bring honour to this sport and to this region”, said Juhász.
The Vojvodina Wrestling Academy was founded in 2019, with the support of the Government of the Republic of Hungary, in co-operation with the Municipality of Kanjiža, Hungarian National Council and the Hungarian Wrestling Academy “Kozma Ištvan”, and with the endorsement of the Wrestling Federation of Serbia, Olympic Committee of Serbia and the Sports Federation of Serbia.
“Five years ago, few people believed that such a strong centre would develop in Kanjiža, one that would bring together and nurture young talent. Today, the Academy in not just a sports institution, but a regional powerhouse that demonstrates it is possible to plan for the future, grow and achieve success - here, at home”, said Juhász and emphasising that in 2025 the Academy brought together 21 boys and 10 girls from more than 15 towns across Vojvodina.
“With the dormitory, regular training sessions and monitoring of academic success, this centre provides the young people with a future and opportunities in their home region”, highlighted Juhász and added that the achievements in 2025 speak for themselves: silver at the Balkan championship, medals at the European championship, placements just shy of the finals at the Under-20 World Championship, as well as multiple titles at the Serbian and Hungarian national championships.
