Subotica/Novi Sad, 5th November  – President of the Assembly of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina, Bálint Juhász , attended today in Subotica the opening conference of the SharingValues project, implemented within the framework of the Interreg–IPA Serbia–Hungary Cross-Border Cooperation Programme.

The SharingValues project aims to preserve and promote tourism valorisation of Subotica and Kiskunhalas cities’ cultural heritage, as well as to develop sustainable cultural and tourist routes that will contribute to strengthening ties and joint promotion of local values on both sides of the border.

President Juhász emphasized that the project was an example of how important cross-border cooperation was for the preservation of cultural and architectural heritage and for strengthening the friendship between the two countries.

“The preservation of cultural and architectural heritage is one of the most important responsibilities of any community that wishes to maintain its identity and pass its legacy on to future generations. Projects such as SharingValues demonstrate how valuable cross-border cooperation programmes between Serbia and Hungary are, as they not only enable the restoration and protection of our cultural monuments but also strengthen friendship and mutual trust,” president Juhász stated.

He further highlighted that the reconstruction of the Subotica City Hall, one of the most beautiful landmarks of the city and of the entire Vojvodina, was the best example of how, with the support of the European Union and through joint efforts, important issues could be addressed and how the values that unite us could be preserved.

“This is the path we should continue to follow – cooperation, mutual understanding, and preservation of all the things that make us unique,” Juhász concluded.

The conference audience was also addressed by Bálint Pásztor, PhD, Member of the National Assembly, Danijel Đivanović, President of the Subotica City Assembly, Csilla Góli, Deputy Mayor of Subotica and SharingValues Project Manager, as well as Róbert Fülöp, Mayor of Kiskunhalas.

The SharingValues project, which also includes the reconstruction of the City Hall roof, has been implemented through cooperation between the City of Subotica, and its institutions, and partners from Hungary, with the support of the European Union. The three-year project will last until 15th April 2028, while the works on the City Hall roof are scheduled to begin in the first half of 2026. The works will include the complete restoration, conservation, and adaptation of the roof structure, while preserving the building’s authentic appearance.

The reconstruction will be carried out under the expert supervision of the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments, in accordance with strict conservation regulations. Special attention will be given to the preservation of original materials and decorative elements, while well-preserved original Zsolnay tiles will be cleaned, protected, and reinstalled in their original position.
