Senta/Novi Sad, 11 September – The President of the AP Vojvodina Assembly, Mr Juhász Bálint attended today the ceremonial session of the Senta Municipal Assembly marking the celebration of Senta Municipality Day and the 328th anniversary of the Battle of Senta.
The session was opened by the President of the Senta Municipal Assembly, Mr Veselin Petrović. The President of the Municipality, Ms Hajnalka Burány, addressed the attendees in a ceremonial speech and the highest municipal awards were presented to deserving individuals.
Following the ceremonial session, the President of the AP Vojvodina Assembly Mr Juhász Bálint reflected on the significance of the Battle of Senta, which changed the course of history in this part of Europe and marked the beginning of the decline of the Ottoman Empire.
“The decisive victory of Eugene of Savoy over the Ottoman army in the Great Turkish War paved the way for negotiations that
ultimately led to the Treaty of Karlowitz. It is our duty to remember all victims with deep reverence and to ensure that the past is never forgotten. At the same time, we are obliged to look forward and continue working for the welfare of the citizens of Senta and the entire region—towards a stronger community, a dignified life and a future in which everyone feels safe and respected,” President Juhász emphasised.
Prior to the ceremonial session, wreaths were laid at the memorial site on the Tisa River where the Battle of Senta took place—a memorial complex dedicated to all those who contributed to the great victory in 1697.
