Novi Sad/Szeged, 13 February - President of the Provincial Government Maja Gojković and President of the AP Vojvodina Assembly Juhász Bálint held talks today with members of the DKMT Euroregional Development Agency on development potentials and current affairs regarding the cross-border region.

During the meeting, they analysed activities of the DKMT and presented new projects.

“We are satisfied with today’s meeting, President Juhász and I both agree that this cooperation is very important as well as the projects implemented by the DKMT. It is important to move from words to deeds and in that context we need to adopt an action plan as a basis for our future cooperation”, said the President of the Provincial Government Maja Gojković.

The greatest ally of Serbia is Hungary and vice versa, our ties are unbreakable, was the message heard at the meeting.

Diversity and plurality of ethnic communities that live in the DKMT countries represent a strong foundation and a bridge of mutual cooperation, which is built on association and partnership in the fields of economy, education, arts, culture, sports. This was concluded at the meeting.

President of the AP Vojvodina Assembly Juhász Bálint expressed his pleasure that the regional DKMT cooperation has been sustained throughout numerous joint projects which were beneficial to citizens in all three countries.

“Thanks to this cooperation, we have developed project-technical documentation for the railway between Subotica and Szeged, while the DKMT has contributed to the improvement of border crossings between Serbia and Hungary. All of this is of great significance to the citizens of this region”, said President Juhász.

Those present at the meeting also focused on the two most current projects within the DKMT regional cooperation.

Project “LIGHT BORDERS IN DKMT” is financed through the Interreg - IPA Cross-border Cooperation Programme Hungary -  Serbia 2021 - 2027 in the total amount of approximately 240 000 EUR and aims at identifying infrastructural development needs and procedures for facilitating border crossing between Serbia and Hungary.

Three strategic projects have already been approved, including the roof repair and development of the tourist potential of the City Hall in Subotica, projects dealing with education of farmers and strengthening cooperation in cases of emergencies in both Vojvodina and the entire cross-border region.

The project “MAKE TIVER TISA GREAT AGAIN” is in the process of preparation, with the aim of improving sustainable tourism of the river Tisa.

The Danube-Kris-Mures-Tisza regional cooperation was established on 21 November 1997 in Szeged with the aim of supporting and encouraging cooperation among local self-governments, businessmen and citizens in all areas that can contribute to the democratisation, integration and social and economic development.

The working meeting was also attended by the vice-presidents of the Bács-Kiskun County Council and Csongrád-Csanád Council - Kornél Mák and Haág Zalán and the Managing Director of the Euroregional Development Agency Eszter Anna Csókási.
