Novi Sad, 19 November - President of the AP Vojvodina Assembly, Juhász Bálint talked today with the Romanian Ambassador to Serbia Silvia Davidoiu about the importance of continuing the cross-border cooperation of the two countries and the implementation of joint projects that are of mutual interest.
President Juhász spoke enthusiastically about the interstate and interregional relations of the Republic of Serbia and Romania pointing out the example - the 20 year long cooperation within the Euroregional Development Agency Danube-Kris-Morish-Tisza (DKMT), whose cofounders were the AP Vojvodina, Arad and Timisoara, and which generated many beneficial projects.
“I see Vojvodina as a European region surrounded by regions whose motherlands are countries members of the EU, which we have good cooperation with. In order to further improve this cooperation, we must take care of the road infrastructure, border crossings, prevent illegal migrations, as we have done so far. We plan the further improvement of these areas through infrastructural projects within the cross-border cooperation”, said Juhász and underscored that the economic cooperation with Romania is constantly showing an upward trend, making Romania the seventh foreign trade partner of our country.
Ambassador Davidoiu stressed that currently there were several joint strategic projects in progress, which were of great importance for the two countries such as the management of border crossings with the aim of preventing illegal migrations, cooperation in the events of natural disasters like floods and fire, as well as the cooperation in the field of healthcare.
“We find the cooperation in the field of culture to be extremely important to us as well and we look forward to see Zrenjanin as the recipient of the title European Capital of Culture since this is our partner city which is the home of a Romanian community and is connected to Timisoara by the river Begej” said Ambassador Davidoiu.
Juhász and Davidoiu agreed that it is essential to construct the highway Belgrade - Timisoara for the better connection and the transport of goods and people, as part of the Pan-European corridor Gdansk - Timisoara - Belgrade - Thessaloniki as well as the construction of the traffic route “Vojvodina Smile” from the border crossing Bački Breg with Hungary to the border crossing Nakovo with Romania. They both assessed that in the upcoming period, the focus should be the forestation of the cross-border area, revitalisation of the railway traffic and the waterway planning and management on the river Begej.
