Novi Sad, 16 July - President of the AP Vojvodina Assembly, Juhász Bálint met today with the Provincial Protector of Citizens – Ombudsman, assistant professor Dragana Đorić PhD, with whom he discussed the importance of the institution of the Provincial Protector of Citizens - Ombudsman with a view to protecting human rights.

At the meeting, which was also attended by the Deputy Provincial Protector of Citizens - Ombudsman for the National Minority Rights Protection, Mihály Nyilas, they discussed the current situation in the area of the protection of the rights of children and national minorities, the use of the mother tongue and the script, as well as the mechanisms for the protection of human rights and legal frameworks for their realisation.

„The function of the Provincial Protector of Citizens is very responsible and significant, because the respect and protection of fundamental human rights are the basis for progress in any other area. We have a very good legal regulation and it is up to us to implement it as efficiently and effectively as possible“, said President Juhász.

When it comes to the right to use the mother tongue and script, Juhász said that the AP Vojvodina Assembly, in which six languages were in official use, showed by its example how those rights could be exercised and that it expected the same from the others, being the principal institution in the Province.

Ombudsperson Ćorić informed President Juhász of the activities of this institution that have been carried out so far, as well as those that are ongoing and planned, particularly emphasising the extremely good cooperation with the national councils of national communities in areas where the needs of national communities and the Ombudsman’s competence intelink.
