The Access to the Information of Public Importance

A free access to the information of public importance is a prerequisite for quality and effective enjoyment of other human rights and freedoms (e.g. freedom of thought, right to information, right to vote, etc.) and is a unique instrument of control over the work of public authorities. This right of citizens gives them a direct access to participate, in an actual and responsible manner, without an intermediary, in carrying out public duties and decision making process and to have influence on their contents and efficient enforcement. In this way, at the same time the principle of responsibility in the work of all authorities is reinforced and conditions are created for the accelerated growth of democracy, building and stability of institutions of the democratic system, as well as the economic growth of the country.

The right to access information of public interest is defined in the Law on Free Access to Information.

The authorised person for handling requests for free access to information shall be Sandra Stojković SJD, Secretary General of the APV Assembly.

Every person has the right to access the information under equal conditions. However a request has to be submitted for this access to be granted.
